Birchenough Bridge is one of Zimbabwe’s most iconic and historically significant engineering landmarks — a steel arch bridge spanning the Save River in Manicaland Province, eastern Zimbabwe. The name refers both to the bridge itself and the small settlement that developed beside it. The bridge was designed by Sir Ralph Freeman, the same consulting engineer responsible for the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia, which explains the visual resemblance between the two structures.
