What does the inside of a wasp nest look like? Let’s cut it open layer by layer. It’s made from chewed wood fibers mixed with saliva, forming a paper-like pulp. Essentially, it's a large cardboard structure with an outer insulating shell and inner combs. The bottom has an entrance guarded by sentry wasps. In spring, the queen builds the first comb and lays 10–20 eggs, feeding them herself. After 20–30 days, they become worker wasps who take over all tasks. The queen then focuses on laying eggs.
