Oct 9 (Reuters) - The U.S. military plans to livestream the Dec. 3 execution by firing squad of Nidal Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting.
The Pentagon says it will livestream the firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan at Fort Hood, the site of his 2009 mass shooting. That would be the first public execution in the U.S. since the 1930s.
Republican and Democratic lawmakers condemn Pentagon plan to livestream Fort Hood shooter's execution by firing squad.
The U.S. would join a very short list of nations that carry out capital punishment in public if it goes forward with plans to live-stream a military execution this year. Only two countries carried out the death penalty in public last year, according to Amnesty International’s tracking of 2,700 executions in 17 countries.
Pentagon plans to livestream Nidal Hasan's 2026 execution, but YouTube, Meta, Twitch, and TikTok have yet to say if they will carry it.
The execution of Nidal Hasan, convicted in the 2009 killings of 13 people at Fort Hood, will be livestreamed, the Defense Department said.
Human rights organisations have condemned the proposed broadcast, warning that livestreaming an execution risks turning state-sanctioned killing into public entertainment
